Automated detection of airflow obstructive diseases: A systematic review of the last decade (2013-2022)

•Investigated role of automated detection of airflow obstructive disease to reduce cost/improve diagnostics.•Applied Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses PRISMA to search IEEE/Google Scholar/pubmed databases.•We identified 65 papers published between 2012 and 2022, covering 67 studies.•For automated obstructive airway disease detection medical imaging adopted in 14 studies, Genetic/physiological signals used in 13, medical records in seven airflow in seven studies and 7 research studies.•Artificial Intelligence can improve decision quality and efficiency of health professionals in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)/asthma diagnosis.
