•Functional connectivity serving cognitive control in healthy aging are understudied.•78 participants performed the multisource interference task during MEG.•Weaker age-related fronto-visual coupling during flanker interference were observed.•Parietal gamma power differed between Simon and flanker interference conditions.•The study suggests age-related inefficiency in top-down attentional control.
