A Generic Flicker Measurement Method Based on Feature Sequence Reconstruction.

The flicker severity level is one of the important indexes of power quality assessment. At present, most flicker detection algorithms are performed under the assumption that the modulation flicker type is known. However, the specific modulation type is difficult to predict in advance, which makes these algorithms severely limited in actual application. To address this problem, a generic flicker measurement method based on feature sequence reconstruction is proposed in this article. First, the flicker envelope containing the main characteristics is extracted by a modified Teager energy operator (MTEO). Then, the Nuttall window-based interpolation fast Fourier transform (FFT) is applied to obtain temporary flicker parameters. After that, two flicker reference signals, which are restructured with these parameters, are compared with a threshold to determine the specific modulation type of the flicker. Finally, according to the identified modulation type, the actual flicker parameters are obtained. Simulation results show that the proposed method can effectively identify the flicker modulation type and accurately obtain the flicker parameters. The validity and accuracy of the algorithm are further verified through experiments conducted on an actual hardware platform.
