•Fn was positively correlated with METTL3 expression in the ESCC tissues.•Fn-infection induced the upregulated-expression of METTL3 in ESCC.•Fn mediated METTL3/Myc axis to promote ESCC cells proliferation and migration in vitro.•Fn accelerates ESCC tumorigenesis and metastasis via METTL3-mediated c-Myc mRNA m6A modification in vivo.
