摘要
Radioactive isotopes have been applied in soil science contexts for over 70 years. Their use in soil science is largely based on the isotopic dilution principle. A range of soil pools and processes can be quantified with the use of radioactive isotopes, which would otherwise be difficult to do based on conventional approaches alone. This chapter covers the basic principles and main approaches of using radioactive isotopes in soil science applications. Their continued use will be essential in helping to address major challenges of global concern (e.g., food security and climate change).
