摘要
Biodiversity conservation is an uphill struggle against the pressures of an economic system with a structural need to expand. Furthermore, there are reasons to question that economic growth contributes to human welfare beyond a certain point, and also that it can be sustained for much longer, due to ecological and social limits. Proponents of degrowth seek to transition to an economy that no longer needs to grow, in ways that are nontraumatic, democratic and equitable, envisaging a society where the priority is to fulfill everybody’s physical and emotional needs without compromising the integrity of what remains of the biosphere.
