Figure skating

Figure skating is a competitive sport combining athleticism with artistry which continues to grow in popularity. Sports practitioners are likely to treat skaters and an understanding of the demands of the sport will be helpful in the medical care of skating athletes. Familiarity with the biomechanics of skating skills along with the injury patterns in skaters allows the practitioner to provide sport-specific care for the skating athlete. The emphasis on esthetics in figure skating presents some unique risks for relative energy deficiency in sports and psychological stressors among skaters.
