Case Studies From Natural Development

This chapter presents three case studies of morphogenesis from normal development, to describe morphogenetic mechanisms in their context. The examples are the formation of a multicellular ‘organism’ by the social amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum, morphogenesis of the tetrapod limb, morphogenesis of fruitfly wings, and gut looping in the chick embryo.
