Jc–B characteristics of RE–Ba–Cu–O (RE = Sm, Er and [Gd, Er]) films on PLD-CeO2/IBAD-GZO/metal substrates

We have fabricated SmBa2Cu3O7−δ films and (Gd0.8Er0.2)Ba2Cu3O7−δ films on PLD-CeO2/IBAD-GZO/metal substrates and investigated the effect of thickness of the superconductor layer on Jc under magnetic field (Jc–B). For thin films up to about 0.5μm, the (Gd0.8Er0.2)Ba2Cu3O7−δ films showed higher Jc than that of the SmBa2Cu3O7−δ under the magnetic field parallel to c-axis, and much higher Jc than that of the SmBa2Cu3O7−δ under the magnetic field perpendicular to the c-axis. However, for thick films of 0.83μm, the Jc–B characteristics were not so good in (Gd0.8Er0.2)Ba2Cu3O7−δ films due to the existence of a-axis oriented domains, while the SmBa2Cu3O7−δ films, in which few a-axis oriented domains were observed, showed the Jc–B characteristics similar to the thinner films.
