•A new diaxially bromonaphthoic acid substituted silicon phthalocyanine was synthesized and characterized.•Photochemical and sono-photochemical features of the silicon complex were studied to define the yield of singlet oxygen.•Comparison of singlet oxygen efficiency obtained by sono-photochemical and photochemical methods.
