Luminescent samarium complexes with a coumarin derived ligand and their deuterated analogues

Six new eight-coordinate samarium complexes comprising a coumarin derived chelating ligand with or without a diimine as auxiliary ligand (1,10 - phenanthroline or 4,7- diphenyl - 1,10 - phenanthroline) are described together with the crystal structure for two of them and their luminescent properties. The effect of partial deuteration on QY values determined in solid state, using either the regular form of the coumarin ligand: 3acetyl-4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one or its partially deuterated analogue: 3-acetyl-d3-4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2one, was found to be very significant.
