In vitro comparison of the effectiveness of various antimicrobial locks with taurolidine in the treatment and prevention of catheter-related bloodstream infections in patients receiving parenteral nutrition

•The application of taurolidine is effective in prevention and treatment of catheter-related bloodstream infection.•Lowering the concentration of taurolidine to 0.625% did not significantly deteriorate the taurolidine lock's effectiveness.•At the same time, increasing the concentration of taurolidine does not lead to its greater effectiveness.•Taurolidine is more effective on Gram-negative bacteria after 30 min of exposure.
