Microstructure and corrosion behavior of welded joint between 2507 super duplex stainless steel and E690 low alloy steel

•Dissimilar metal welded joint between 2507 super duplex stainless steel and E690 high strength low alloy steel is reported.•Dilution zone exhibits the element concentration gradient and the highest hardness.•Fusion interface is the weak area of dissimilar metal welded joints.•Galvanic corrosion is initiated at E690 base metal and propagates to the interface.•Corrosion groove is formed at the interface, contributing to the initiation of SCC cracks.
