•A high proportion (>75%) of Scottish adults received all recommended doses during the study period.•Almost half a million adults with one COVID-19 vaccine did not receive all recommended doses.•Age was the biggest predictor of incomplete vaccination.•Household, demographic, and health factors are predictive of incomplete vaccination.•Several risk factors are associated with severe COVID-19 outcomes and incomplete vaccination.
