BCG centenary: Lessons learnt.

•A multipronged multi-sectorial approach with emphasis on preventive strategies is required for TB Elimination.•Preventive strategies include TB Preventive Therapy (TPT) and Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine.•BCG is the only WHO approved TB vaccine, in use for more than a century now with billions already vaccinated.•Highest efficacy against disseminated and dangerous forms of TB disease, in neonates and TST-negative children.•Also has immune modulator role for which it is used for various non-tubercular indications.
