The road to Assisi

A brief history of earlier meetings on relativistic theories of atoms, molecules and solids since 1969 is told. The REHE meetings (Relativistic Effects in Heavy-Element Chemistry and Physics) range from REHE-1 in 1993 to the REHE-13 at Assisi in 2022. They were started during the ESF (European Science Foundation) programme REHE in 1993-1997 and continued as an independent series after it.
