Acute exercise modulates the inflammatory response in adipose tissue in both lean and obese mice

•Cytokines and immune cells seem to modulate lipolysis and adipose tissue remodeling.•An acute session of physical exercise increased the number of rolling and adherent leukocytes in the epididymal adipose tissue vessels, and these cells returned to basal levels only at 48 h after exercise.•Exercise increased interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α in the adipose tissue of lean mice.•Exercise reduced interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α in the adipose tissue of obese mice.
