A Monitoring Agent for Advancing Elderly Care Through Mobile Health Technology.

Social isolation is a problem that affects more and more elderly people. Their limited social contact and low autonomy make it difficult for them to access the attention and care they need and deserve. This often results in a progressive deterioration of their physical and cognitive health. In this paper, we propose an agent model to monitor and provide assistance to socially isolated people. Our proposal has two main components: a mobile application, which is in charge of interaction with the user and data acquisition; and an intelligent agent model. The system uses different input devices to monitor the emotional state of the elderly person. This information is used by the agent to detect significant changes in the emotional state of the person. This information is very useful for the therapist to make a better diagnosis of the patient. Then, the agent will determine the best action to improve the emotional well-being of the elderly person. These actions may be aimed at generating personalized recommendations or triggering alerts to family members or social-healthcare staff. In addition, the information acquired by the application is used to provide diagnostic support to healthcare professionals and analyze progressive cognitive impairment.
