Esophageal cancer T-staging on MRI: A preliminary study using cine and static MR sequences

•MRI has shown a high diagnostic accuracy in determining the T-stage of esophageal cancers with a significant correlation with reference T-staging including endoscopic ultrasound.•The addition of cine MR sequences improves inter-reader agreement and boost staging confidence, particularly in advanced stages by evaluating tumor mobility in relation to surrounding structure.•Among the various cine sequences, the axial cine SSFP sequence is considered the most valuable and may be readily implemented into clinical practice, alongside the static sequences.
