摘要

•Anti-corrosion capabilities of FeCO3 and FexCayMgzCO3 scales were compared.•FIB and µCT were applied to reveal the pore characteristics within the scales.•General corrosion rate is closely related to the available active surface areas.•FeCO3 scales provide superior anti-corrosion protection than FexCayMgzCO3 scales.
