•The Bʹ-Al3Mg9Si8 has a slight brittleness and higher Young’s modulus.•The interface with T1-Al configuration has the best bonding strength.•Strong Al-Si covalent bond will be formed at the Bʹ (101¯0)/Al(5¯10) interface.•Cracks occur inside the Bʹ-phase adjacent to the Bʹ (101¯0)/Al(5¯10) interface.
