Two new sesquiterpenes from the aerial parts of Bixa orellana

Two new sesquiterpenes, 10-methyl-isocampheren-10-ene-11-acid (1) and isocampheren-9-ene-10-ethylone (2) along with six known compounds (3–8) were isolated from the aerial parts of Bixa orellana. The structures of these compounds were determined by spectroscopic analyses. All of these isolates were obtained from this plant for the first time, and were tested for their cytotoxic and anti-inflammatory activities. Compound 6 showed cytotoxicity against two human tumor cell lines (A375 and NCI–H460).
