•The wet optical bonding process of displays was numerically modelled and simulated.•The spreading patterns of a silicone-based optically clear adhesive are computed.•The computed pattern evolution is very close to the experimentally observed.•The methodology provides a tool for the optimization of the wet optical bonding.
