Uncertainty, sensory processing, and stress in autistic children during the COVID-19 pandemic

•Sensory difficulties increased in autistic people during COVID.•Intolerance of uncertainty also increased for autistic individuals.•Increases in sensory processing and intolerance of uncertainty were interrelated.•Sensory difficulties and intolerance of uncertainty were correlated with stress.•Natural experiment shows key impacts of increased uncertainty on autistic children.
