•Impact regime maps are presented for different alcohol-water mixture droplets.•Alcohol additives markedly promote atomization and breakup of water droplets.•Dynamic LFP temperature notably increases by adding a small amount of alcohol.•Negative effect of low impact velocities is compensated by alcohol additives.•A new triggering mechanism is proposed considering surface roughness effect.
