Predicting crack growth of paving materials under indirect tensile fatigue loads

•A damage density model was proposed to quantify crack growth under IDT fatigue loads.•Cement-treated aggregates exhibit more brittle cracking where cracks are penetrative.•Asphalt mixtures show more ductile cracking where multiple cracks are nonpenetrative.•The proposed CDM-based model can accurately predict crack lengths for both materials.
