•A new comprehensive control strategy for load current sharing improvement and VQ enhancement with respect to multi voltage-quality-level (MVQL) control in islanding P-MGs.•Considering the effect of non-dispatchable VPG-RERs in the proposed control strategy.•Tuning the effort of each DG for voltage quality compensation and load demand distribution properly, in proportional to their instantaneous free-capacity.•The proposed hierarchical control scheme is not limited to being applied in MGs with two DGs.•Excellent performance of the proposed control strategy, even under time delay of the communication link.
