•Mechanical characterization (tension after impact) of non-damaged as well as impact-damaged pristine (virgin) epoxy-matrix-based CFRP and repaired laminates (soft patch repairs).•Usage of state-of-the-art micro-CT for high resolution imaging of pristine (virgin) and repaired laminates both impact-damaged with selected energy levels.•Characterization of the extent (quantitative and qualitative) and nature of damage as well as 2D and 3D visualization for both the pristine (virgin) and repaired laminates.•High resolution segmented 3D-representation of individual laminate and bond constituents for an undamaged, repaired laminate.
