Profiles of alcohol and cannabis protective behavioral strategies use across two large, multi-site college student samples of concurrent alcohol and cannabis users

•Four profiles were found based on alcohol/cannabis harm reduction behaviors.•High use of alcohol/cannabis harm reduction behaviors was most protective.•One profile had a high risk for negative cannabis outcomes.•Targeting alcohol/cannabis harm reduction behaviors may benefit concurrent users.•Some concurrent users may benefit from targeted cannabis intervention.
