Ground deformation induced by shield tunneling posture in soft soil

•An approach for calculating the soil deformation induced by shield tunneling posture is proposed.•Shield-soil interaction displacement is obtained by considering shield geometry and its real-time kinematic behavior.•Correlation between shield tunneling posture and ground deformation is revealed.•A case study of Suzhou Metro Line S1 is carried out and the proposed model is validated.
