Who wants to drive forever? Exploring attitudes toward driving and aging

•This research is a novel exploration of attitudes toward driving, aging, and the decision to stop driving.•We find evidence for a “policy-window” to enact policies aimed at reducing auto-dependence in general.•This exploratory work indicates complex and nuanced attitudes toward driving and aging.•Future research is needed to understand cross-generational support reducing societal auto-dependence.
