•Donor type, double umbilical cord blood, and HLA-haploidentical bone marrow transplantation did not impact post-transplantation quality of life (QoL) in either treatment arm.•Pretransplantation QoL scores and clinical events of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and relapse were the only predictors of post-transplantation QoL.•QoL was not associated with survival in either treatment arm.
