•28-day AZLI is indicated to treat P. aeruginosa (Pa) infection in people with CF.•28-day nebulized treatment eradication protocols can be burdensome for children.•A shortened 14-day AZLI course vs 28-day AZLI was investigated for the first time.•14-day AZLI did not show non-inferiority to 28-day AZLI for Pa eradication.•Both treatment courses were well tolerated; no new safety signals were observed.
