Development of locally resonant meta-basement for seismic induced vibration control of high-rise buildings

•A novel meta-basement is proposed based on the metamaterial and strong-column weak-beam design philosophy.•The proposed meta-basement is applied to mitigate seismic induced vibrations of high-rise buildings.•Analytical and numerical studies are performed to examine the effectiveness of the proposed method.•Results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
