•A novel biphasic solvent with a high CO2 loading in the solid phase was developed for CCUS.•The formation of H-bonding between EG and BDA was confirmed.•Particle self-aggregation induces the liquid–solid phase transition.•The interaction between the absorbed products was elucidated by ESP and IGMH analysis.•The phase-change mechanism of CO2 absorption into BDA/EG system was elucidated.
