Psychiatric comorbidity in relation to clinical characteristics of epilepsy: A retrospective observational study

•Prevalence of psychiatric comorbidity in epilepsy was 35%.•The prevalence was equal in focal and generalized epilepsy.•Unknown cause of focal epilepsy was significantly related to psychiatric disorders.•Comorbidity prevalence was independent of seizure control at last follow-up.•The rate of psychiatric disorders was high even in epilepsy resolved.
