Physical and psychological hazards in the gig economy system: A systematic review

•78 instances of hazards in the gig economy were identified, of which 28 were unique.•87% of hazards were found at levels of the system higher than the frontline worker (n = 68).•The greatest proportion (53%) of risks factors were identified at the company level (n = 41).•The most prevalent hazard found was platform control in the gig economy (n = 13).•Intervention needs to move beyond targeting individual incidents at the worker level.
