Social determinants of health in pulmonary embolism management and outcome in hospitals: Insights from the United States nationwide inpatient sample

•Social determinants of treatment and the course of acute pulmonary embolism (PE) are understudied.•We studied PE hospitalizations in the United States nationwide inpatient sample.•Inequalities in advanced therapies and mortality exist related to race and socioeconomic status.•Future studies should explore the long-term impact of social inequities in PE management.
