Stakeholder-driven scenario analysis of ambitious decarbonisation of the Russian economy

•We use CONTO, an energy-economic, inter-industry model for the Russian Federation.•Stakeholders’ preferred scenario fell short of a Paris-compliant emissions trajectory.•A more ambitious scenario reflected the optimistic end of stakeholders’ response range.•The latter can achieve carbon neutrality soon after 2050 but at the expense of growth.•Bottlenecks to decarbonisation are identified, with a focus on domestic capabilities.
