摘要
Delusion of Misidentifications (DMS) is a rare syndrome and is observed in psychosis, affective disorders and organic brain diseases. Various attempts have been made to explain the underlying pathology varying from psychodynamic theories to biological theories. Misidentification of a person is a common phenomenon in DMS, but for objects, it is rarely seen. In this case series, authors have described three cases who believed that certain personal objects had been replaced by look-alike fake substitutes. Delusional misidentification of objects is rare, and it raises important issues about how the human mind attributes a personal value (of being ‘mine’) to objects. An alteration of this sense of belongingness (both projected and introjected) is an essential feature of delusional processes. The authors tried to review the connections between phenomenology, psychopathology and neurobiology for this particular aspect of DMS and explained the need for future research in this particular aspect.
