Mesityl-substituted azadipyrromethene zinc(II) and cobalt(II) complexes – structural, spectroscopic and electrochemical properties

Synthesis of two azadipyrromethene complexes with zinc(II) and cobalt(II) is reported. The complexes were characterized by UV–Vis spectrophotometry, mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopy. Molar absorptivities up to 107000 M−1·cm−1 were found in the visible region; the zinc(II) complex showed a single long-wavelength band, while it was accompanied by a shoulder for the cobalt(II) analogue. The complexes are non-emissive. X-ray crystallography revealed insignificant influence of the metal(II) ion on the molecular structure. Two reduction and two oxidation processes were observed in cyclic voltammetry.
