‘My doctor should decide’ – Predictors for healthcare users’ stated preferences regarding medical decision-making

•Patient autonomy is a core ethical principle.•Yet, some patients say they prefer for their doctor to decide.•We surveyed how involvement preferences relate to satisfaction in specific scenarios.•Less educated and chronically ill tended to say they preferred a more passive role.•However, when taken through shared decision-making, groups were equally satisfied.
