•Rutile U-Pb dating shows that the Yangxie gold deposit in the North Qinling Terrane formed in Late Triassic.•Alteration phases 40Ar/39Ar dating reveal that the Yangxie gold deposit was suffered tectonothermal disturbance in Early Jurassic and Early Cretaceous.•Ore-forming fluids and metals for the Yangxie gold deposit were sourced from the metamorphic devolatilization of the early Paleozoic carbonaceous sedimentary rocks.•U-Pb dating of hydrothermal accessory minerals can place reliable chronological constraints on hydrothermal deposits.
