Target edge extraction for array single-photon lidar based on echo waveform characteristics

•The target edge is divided into inside edge and outside edge based on the echo waveform distribution characteristics.•The proposed algorithm extracts target edges using echo waveform characteristics without reconstructing the image.•The proposed algorithm does not rely on the fixed direction edge detection template.
