•Single-phase Y2Ca2Ga3VO12 material was successfully prepared for the first time.•Eu3+, Sm3+, Dy3+ activated phosphors exhibit orange, red and yellow emission upon near-UV excitation.•Efficient energy transfer from VO43- to Eu3+, Sm3+, or Dy3+ ions occurs.
