•Surface passivation of CsPbBr3perovskite microcrystals by Camphor sulfonic acid (CSA).•Binding of CSA on CsPbBr3microcrystals enhances photo-emission and stability of perovskites.•Higher photo responsivity of FTO/TiO2/CsPbBr3-CSA/Carbon self-powered photodetector.•Photodetector exhibited higher photo detectivity under white light.
