摘要
Xerosis, caused by decreased hydration of the stratum corneum, significantly impairs patients’ quality of life and hyaluronic acid (HA) is mainly used in the treatment of xerosis. HA plays an important role in wound regeneration, moisturizing, and anti-aging. Although HA is considered as an effective and safe ingredient of cosmetics, there is a constant demand for a more economical and efficient formulation. We aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a novel hydrogel-based moisturizing cream containing cross-linked HA and silicone polymers, which manufactured only by irradiation without chemical cross-linking agents. The safety study included 30 people with normal skin and the efficacy study included 30 patients with xerosis. To assess the safety, patch test and photopatch test were performed and patients’ adverse events were recorded. To evaluate the efficacy, skin barrier function test, using Tewameter®, Corneometer®, Sebumeter®, pHmeter®, Mexameter®, and Frictiometer®, was performed and the xerosis severity scale (XSS), patient satisfaction, and Investigator’s Global Assessment (IGA) were investigated at baseline and at 2, 4, and 8 weeks. The novel hydrogel-based moisturizing cream was applied to one leg of the patients and Physiogel® as a control to the other leg of the patients. In the safety study, no significant adverse events were reported. In the efficacy study, the mean value of transepidermal water loss decreased (p>0.05) and skin hydration (p<0.05) increased with time in both legs. In addition, the mean value of XSS decreased with time. IGA showed an improvement in 93%, 100%, and 100% at each visit (97%, 100%, 100% in control) and of the total patients, 73%, 97%, and 100% were satisfied respectively (63%, 93%, 93% in control). The novel hydrogel-based moisturizing cream containing cross-linked HA and silicone polymers tested herein could be safe and effective for xerosis compared with other moisturizers.
