Oocyte may be a promising target for the study of reproductive biology and medicine

The reproduction and evolution of organisms is an eternal issue worthy of research or exploration. Homo sapiens, also known as human beings, is the most widely distributed terrestrial mammal species and lives on every continent on the earth, and also facing the issue of reproduction and evolution. This work is to propose a new target for the study of reproductive biology and medicine. Evidence indicated that oocyte may be a promising target for the study of reproductive biology and medicine. We posit that the hypothesis above may play an important role in the study of reproductive biology and medicine; which can be reflected in the following: (1) It will help to reveal the development/maturation process of oocytes, and to discover the biochemical regulatory mechanisms of oocyte growth and maturation; (2) It will help to explain the evolution and species difference of oocytes; (3) It will be helpful to research and develop novel assisted reproductive technologies (ART); and (4) It will help to solve the infertility of human beings. Therefore, we believe that the hypothesis above is worth further validated in the future, and it will help to promote our understanding of the biological basis of oocyte biology, reproductive biology and medicine.
