Deliberate fatal crashes involving a motor vehicle and a cyclist or pedestrian

•We analyzed deliberate crashes that resulted in the deaths of cyclists and pedestrians.•The majority of these cases were pedestrians and cyclist suicides.•Four crashes were initiated by a motor vehicle driver.•We provide background information on suicide cases.•We discuss the legal implications of deliberately hitting pedestrians or cyclists.
