摘要
This chapter discusses and demonstrates the utilization of advanced geospatial technologies in detecting and managing crop pests and diseases. An overview of scouting, the significance of accurate pest identification, different sample approaches, integrated pest management (IPM), and spatially variable rate technologies for spraying are highlighted in this chapter. IPM practice offers the farmer a chance to create a number of management plans that will integrate all components of pest control into the agricultural production system. Microlevel pest control with only the necessary amount of pesticides applied is the focus of the recently established Precision in Pest Management (PPM) method. Various tools and methods like Geographic Information/Position System (GIS/GPS), Remote Sensing (RS), and Spatially Variable Rate Technology (VRT) for monitoring, occurrence, prevention, and suppression of pest occurrence are explained in the chapter. Site-specific pest management using GPS and VRT enables the farmers to act precisely and lower their input costs for pesticides and reduce the negative impacts on the environment from using such chemicals.
